Desert Island Dinners

What We Eat welcomes Professor Michael J.A. Howe

Michael Howe is a highly regarded psychology researcher and the author of many books. His most recent book, Genius Explained, published by Cambridge University Press, can be purchased at Amazon. In this thought provoking book, Professor Howe traces the lives of some exceptionally creative men & women including Darwin & Einstein. Is genius a special inborn gift? Read Genius Explained to follow Professor Howe’s findings on the subject.

Now read about Professor Howe’s Desert Island Dinners experience:

WWE: Professor Howe, thank you for joining us for Desert Island Dinners at What We Eat.
Professor Howe: And thank you too: the pleasure is entirely mine.

WWE: OK, a quick breakfast question, how do you like your eggs cooked?
Professor Howe: Boiled, not too hard, but not runny.

WWE: Imagine that we whisk you off to a desert island. You are allowed one meal and one drink, but it has to be the same one every day. What would you choose?
Professor Howe: That's a difficult one. I'm tempted to go for something luxurious such as lobster, but maybe it would seem tiresome by the hundredth time around. Fish would suit me fine provided there were no bones. But in the end I think I'll decide on curry and rice - maybe lamb curry. And perhaps an apple for desert. Apples are hardly exciting, but all that fibre will keep me healthy.

WWE: We are pleased to tell you that we have decided to build a restaurant on your desert island. So to you, our only customer, what type of food would you like us to serve?
Professor Howe: Thai or Malaysian would be great.

WWE: Is there any restaurant that you'd like us to model ours after? Remember, you have to eat here every single day!
Professor Howe: My wife and I enjoyed a superb meal in a delightfully elegant restaurant called The Suter House, near Hamilton in the North Island of New Zealand. It was not at all expensive.

WWE: As a special thanks to you for visiting our island, we will bring you a bag of goodies - what 5 food items would you like us to pack?
Professor Howe: That is really tough! Lobster; Singapore noodles; a can of anchovies; some taramasalata. Finally, an ordinary croissant, but it has to be baked in France.

WWE: And we can't let you leave the island without making something extra special, so what Desert Island Dessert would you like us to make you?
Professor Howe: Apple crumble, the way my wife Sylvia makes it.

WWE: Thank you very much Professor Howe for supporting What We Eat and for sharing some food fun with all the foodies out there!
